She had the best scoring average of a star on DWTS ever. That's why I think the difference was more than just Amy dancing on prosthetic legs.Coleslawhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06813319585807128092noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5877872196122597956.post-32267260103882552492014-05-21T05:16:33.602-07:002014-05-21T05:16:33.602-07:00Then there is the whole problem of using Amy as i...Then there is the whole problem of using Amy as inspiration. The word in its many forms comes up over and over again in the judges comments on her dancing: you’re so inspiring. You are such an inspiration. I’m sure people are inspired by her, but I see a difference between “I’m inspired by you” and “You’re such an inspiration” in that to me, the latter objectifies Amy.

Thank you. You've articulated something I've been finding vaguely wrong for a while, but haven't really worked out what it is that I'm not liking about it. That and yes, not everyone in the same boat has the talent/support/opportunity to achieve at the same level, and while it's good to have inspirational role models, it would be better to try and level the playing field as much as is possible so that it's not just lack of talent that stops people from being able to achieve.

I’m sorry, but Meryl Davis can dance rings around her, and I don’t think it’s just because of the legs.

Without having seen either of them I would say that the legs would certainly not help. No matter how good your balance, or how talented you are I imagine there's still a big difference between having legs and having prosthetics as far as dancing is concerned. lsnnoreply@blogger.com
